Zapote and Maravilla
Two great deep dives located west of Puerto Morelos town, along the highway to “La Ruta de los Cenotes.”
Zapote
Cenote Zapote is a beautiful eco-park with great facilities and is famous for the amazing discovery of ancient Mayan sloth bones at around 50 meters deep. It is an amazing doline that opens at around 80 feet / 24 meters into a huge gallery full of biothems, known in the diving community as the “Hell’s Bells.” These structures, once formed, continue to grow even when submerged. It also has the typical Hydrogen Sulfide Cloud at around 100 feet / 30 meters, making this place unique and one of the most memorable dives of your life.
Maravilla
After driving east along the highway, you reach Cenote Maravilla, another amazing doline that opens right at the beginning into a massive sinkhole below your feet. Lasers of light enter through the opening at noon, making this dive very mystical and beautiful as you surround the site on your way up after experiencing its Hydrogen Sulfide Cloud at around 80 feet / 24 meters.
Maximum depth for both dives: 100 feet / 30 meters.
