Barbie Line & Bat Cave Cenote / CavernDiving

One of the most spectacular cenotes in the Riviera Maya, this stunning underground environment is known for its majestic stalactites, stalagmites, enormous limestone columns, and breathtaking views from the open-water sections. It is part of the Sac Actun cave system, one of the longest underwater cave systems in the world and one of the most important cave systems in the Yucatán Peninsula.

The cavern section is relatively shallow, with an average depth of approximately 20 feet / 6 meters, making it an excellent location for experienced recreational divers interested in cenote diving near Playa del Carmen. The shallow profile also allows divers to experience two completely different cenote dives at the same location: the famous Barbie Line dive and the spectacular Bat Cave dive.

During the Barbie Line dive, divers follow a beautiful cavern route surrounded by dramatic geological formations, crystal-clear water, natural light, and impressive underwater scenery. The combination of sunlight filtering through the cenote entrances and the ancient limestone formations creates a unique cavern diving experience in the Riviera Maya.

The Bat Cave dive offers a completely different experience. Along the route, divers can reach a spectacular dry gallery where they can surface inside a huge cavern filled with impressive stalactites hanging from the ceiling. The transition from the underwater environment into this enormous dry chamber makes this one of the most memorable cenote diving experiences in Playa del Carmen and the Riviera Maya.

Because of its relatively shallow depth, this cenote generally does not have the pronounced halocline found in many other cenotes in the region. The result is exceptionally clear water and excellent visibility, allowing divers to appreciate the intricate details of the ancient limestone formations.
